Proposal

Proposal for Bearded dragon documentary.

I am planning to make a documentary based around my pet bearded dragons. I chose to do this because my bearded dragons are interesting to me.
The documentary will consist of bearded dragon shots and various interviews with people about their thoughts on bearded dragons. I would like my documentary to appeal towards children, as animals are considered mysterious and they would be interesting for them, since bearded dragons are generally unusual reptiles. I would also like for my audience to bring a hope for children to consider asking their parents for a bearded dragon as a pet. To hopefully achieve this i shall be giving the bearded dragons voices so that they appeal to the children.

My bearded dragons will be the main stars of the documentary and they're going to be the main content of my work.
No bearded dragons will be harmed during the production of the documentary.

Observations of my own bearded dragons

Observations of my own bearded dragons

I have observed my bearded dragons through photos to show how they look and the different sizes.
This image is of my bearded dragons just laying about on the heat-pad (under the wood chippings)

This image is of the parents, Shrek and Fiona, these two have been together since i first got them and Fiona originally gave birth to about 30 eggs.

This image is of the four Baby bearded dragons with there father Shrek. On this image, one of the baby bearded dragons is on top of his father, this shows that he is in need of the heat lamp so he is leaning on his father to reach it.

This is Fiona, she is the mother and she is generally a slow bearded dragon. She mainly spends her time sleeping.

This is the bearded dragons all hunched together. Two of the bearded dragon babies are stacked on top of their father. fighting for the heat lamp.

This is a birds eye view of the picture above.

Blurred lines Interview video

Evaluation for Blurred lines Video

Evaluation

This video is about the pop song Blurred Lines by Robin Thicke.
In this video i interviewed four different people, Iana Surch, a 18/19 year old female who likes indie music. Andrew Findlay, a 33 year old male whose music preference is a little bit of everything. Sophie Masterman, a 18/19 year old female who likes indie music and Rachel Barlow, and 18/19 year old female who also likes indie music.

Whilst interviewing these few people i gathered many various opinions from them. "I think that Robin Thicke treats women as animals" This was said by Iana Surch. "I think its quite derogatory to women really"this was said by Andrew Findlay. "It basically says dress like this if you want to show your man a good time" this was said by Sophie Masterman. And then "its just based around women really" this was said by Rachel Barlow.

The video was produced by myself on an Mac computer with an application called Final cut Express. Each sequence was placed and cut together to fit the song, with a decent amount of cutaways and interviews.
The strengths that I believe i have in this project is that i edited the video very well and that each interviews shot and cutaway shot was filmed and cut nicely.
If i could choose what to improve on it would be the way that certain bits of the video was cut.

In conclusion i believe that the video is well structured and that it was edited as best as possible.

Audience classification for 'Blurred lines' Music video

Audience classification for 'Blurred lines' music video

My work today is discovering the Classification of the audience for the music video and song 'Blurred lines' by Robin Thicke. I'll be writing about the age range, religion, specific interests, geo demographics, etc.

Age Range:
I think that the specific age, for viewing a video such as 'Blurred lines' is around about the mid-late teens. This is because of the way the video is presented, its lyrics are rude and the music video is too much of a bad influence. The age range seems appropriate because the older a teen will be the less they will be influenced, because they'd know better.

Gender:
The gender that this video and song is aimed towards is both male and female, because boys watch for the 'eye candy' and the female audience watch because they want to be like the other girls. again I think that this is mainly influencing both genders, because the girls think that that is how they should act. Though, Males would be the more popular gender watching the video. This is because they are influenced to think that they should treat women differently, and more importantly, the wrong way.

Disposable Income:
In my opinion I think that there isn't entirely a disposable income for the specific audience. I think this because the audience either doesn't have a job, or has a form of job that doesn't pay. Although, me being a teenager myself, it is quite difficult to get a disposable income because of the world today. Though late teens can have somewhat of a disposable income because of apprentiships and they receive pay for doing jobs at home.

Religion:
In my opinion, Religious audiences would immediately turn away from this video and its lyrics as soon as the first sentence is sung. This is because the lyrics in this would be classed as a sin towards them and their religion. Firstly it shows women with a huge lack of clothing, which, also is a sin towards christians, since they believe the more clothes worn, the more close to god.

Ethnic Origin:
This music video seems quite offensive towards certain ethnicities, since it might not be how they are. Although the video does show people of different skin tone, it shows various ethnicities but in a westernised view.

Geo Demographics:
'Blurred lines would be popular from all over the world. It'd be famous everywhere because it is catchy, influencing and children think it is part of the new trend for music. It is played everywhere from towns, cities, seaside leisures, countryside and countries all around.

Specific interests:
The main specific interests for audiences watching this music video is so they know the clothing trends, make-up trends and hairstyle trends. Although, trends have changed through the years so kids think that the skimpy trends in the video are something that they would want to have. Also, speech is big in this. the video shows how there would be certain ways for a man to speak to a woman.

Ambitions:
The video in my opinion is ruining peoples life ambitions, because children now are trying to make themselves look as much like the celebrities as possible, which is bad because of the revealing clothing and bright make-up.

Blurred lines music video, is it too sexist?

Blurred lines Music video: is it too sexist?

For this task we have been told to acquire five articles on the subject of how Blurred lines is too sexist and how people think of the song.

Article from the independent

Source: www.independent.co.uk/arts-entertainment/music/news/pharrell-williams-says-blurred-lines-criticism-is-out-of-context-9738266.html

The song ' Blurred lines, by Robin Thicke, Pharrell Williams and T.I is  apparently 'controversial' and was thought to be overblown. Though Singer Pharrell Williams thinks that all of this is 'out of context' and he quotes 'the last thing i wanna do is degrade'

Though singer Robin Thicke says that though this is his biggest hit, it is not even written or produced by him, like many of his previous songs.

Pharrell williams also speaks about how 'Anything can be taken out of context'

Article from the Guardian

Source: www.theguardian.com/music/2013/nov/13/blurred-lines-most-controversial-song-decade

This Article shows how the song is described as 'rapey' and has even been branded by a blogger as a 'rape song' those opinions have gone all over the media.

Kirsty Haigh says that " it promotes a worrying attitude towards sex and consent." Families are also complaining about how the rude and explicit dance scenes and lyrics from the music video have been causing children to copy and mimic the Music video. The video overall has been shown as a bad influence.

Article from The rolling stones

Source: www.rollingstone.com/music/news/blurred-lines-the-worst-song-of-this-year-or-any-other-year-20131206

The famous song 'blurred lines' by Robin Thicke, has been called 'the worst song in this year or any other year' by Rolling stones and it has been said that 'everything next year will suck a little more' The article goes on to speak about how the song sucks more than Cat Stevens 'wild world'

The creator of the article goes on to give the song 'Blurred lines' personification, saying how they want to 'punch the song in the nose' and 'make the song cry.

Article from NME

Source: www.nme.com/news/robin-thicke-0/72627

Robin Thicke's track "blurred lines" was banned from university student buildings at the university of Edinburgh because it promotes 'unhealthy attitude towards sex and consent'

The song by Robin Thicke was apparently singing about his wife of twenty years. quoting that 'he knows she'd want it, since they've been together for 20 years" though, since its kids and easily influenced children watching the music video, they arent thinking of its meanings. On youtube it has a large amount of dislikes nearing the 200,000's

Article from PSMAG

 Source: www.psmag.com/culture/mouths-rapists-lyrics-robin-thickes-blurred-lines-66569/

Many lyrics from Robin Thicke's 'Blurred lines' are words that many sexual assault victims have been told.

The lyric "good girl" suggests that the victim should consent, the song is basically talking about how girls should consent to men.
another lyric "i know you want it" suggests that the victims want it, when really they don't, many victims have said that, their rapists have said that to them to persuade and force.

Overall Robin Thickes song is sexist and it portrays many negative sources, this clearly shows that this song is well and truly hated for the words and its true meaning.

Primary and Qualitative Research

Primary and Qualitative Research

In our lesson we learnt about Research on factual documentaries. I learnt many various research techniques mainly focusing on primary and qualitative research. In the class we were shown a range of tv documentaries.

Techniques

  • Interviews - An interview is a talk with an individual, asking them questions about the said theme of your work. Interviews come with a series of questions that vary from being simple questions to in depth questions. Eg; Interviewers such as Jeremy Paxman use very difficult questions to knock their interviewee's out of concentration, and he often repeats his questions multiple times so that he can hopefully get the answer he was hoping for, that often makes people uncomfortable.

After watching an interview from Jeremy Paxman, I discovered that he uses a Semi structured method. In his interviews, Jeremy tends to interrupt the people he interviews so that he can demand an answer from the person. Paxman corners his interviewee's and manages to annoy the people he talks to. He's a demanding man that starts off with a simple approach. When he asks a question he repeats it constantly to get the answer he wants.

  • Questionnaires - A Questionnaire is a sheet or multiple sheets of paper with various questions on. this is pretty much what interviewers use. The questions are usually targeted at certain audiences and are also in various difficulties. sometimes some questions can even be very difficult to answer. Some of the questions can require simple 'yes or no' answers, whereas others require paragraphs of an answer.

After watching 'The Apprentice' we find that they give direct questions to their clients, they judge the people and their business plans. they give honest opinions and they get to the point. since they are extremely professional they use statistics often. they prefer to dismiss CV's and like to get Too tense and make the clients nervous and catch all small reactions.

  • Observations - An observation is where you have a specific topic that needs researching and you observe and take notes of what you have learned. for Example  in our lesson we saw a Louis Theroux Documentary on America's most hated family.
After watching Louis Theroux interview america's most hated family, I'd say that Louis uses a structured method. he already knows what he's going to ask. Louis also has a subtle interviewing style. From watching the video I saw that Louis didnt seem very comfortable when he interviewed the family.
